The Evolution of United Energy Products

At the start of a new year, we look forward to the promise of the upcoming year, while looking back on all of the past events that have brought us to this point. As we approach our 38th year in business, we thought it would be fitting to take a trip back in time to explore the evolution of United Energy Products.

 

Over 35 years ago, Frank Smollon, Sr. introduced the idea of combining unmatched customer service and technical expertise with the venting products marketplace. He recognized that customers were not just looking for a product, but for a dedicated partner to provide total solutions to their venting and heating challenges. Back then, the norm for venting, commercial boilers, generators, and water heaters was field fabricated, fiber insulation wrapped black iron. But Frank sensed that innovation was at hand, and soon the company was marketing UL listed, factory fabricated, double walled stainless steel, pre-insulated products—-safer, more easily installed and more efficient in operation. A better solution for the customer.

 

This penchant for early recognition of technical advancement, coupled with top-quality customer service, fueled the early growth of the company as it moved beyond venting systems and into boilers, waters heaters, and hydronic pumping systems. In keeping with its broad view of providing customers a total heating and venting solution, UEP founded Chimney Works, a sister company, in 2007, offering chimney installation, engineering, design and quality products for the chimney marketplace.

 

In 2019, Frank Smollon, Jr. became the new Owner and President of United Energy Products. Today, the company carries more than 17 product lines, representing a wide variety of boilers, water heaters, pumps and venting solutions across the DC metro area. UEP continues to earn its reputation as the local venting experts with a customer satisfaction focus, specializing in value added field measuring, engineering design, quality venting products and heating solutions.

 

Frank Jr. has positioned United Energy Products for growth while maintaining the family-like culture that has always defined the company. UEP is structured to continue promoting customer satisfaction and to be more scalable than ever before. In conjunction with UEP, Chimney Works is also an industry leader. Ultimately, UEP plans to be the go-to venting and mechanical experts by continuing to expand its reputable and quality product line that can meet the evolving needs of customers. The creation of a continuing education program has also promoted UEP as an industry thought leader.
